ABERDEEN, UK, Sept. 9 / PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a world leader in 2D and 3D design software for the manufacturing, building and engineering, and media and entertainment markets, today announced the availability of AutoCAD Plant 3D 2010, a new software product that brings the proven benefits of model-based design to mainstream plant design projects. Purpose-built for the design, modeling, and documentation of process plants, AutoCAD Plant 3D makes modern 3D design more affordable and accessible to project teams of all sizes. Today's announcement was made at the SPE Offshore Europe Oil & Gas Conference & Exhibition 2009.
Built on the familiar AutoCAD platform, AutoCAD Plant 3D allows project teams to increase productivity, and improve accuracy and coordination of shared information. The vast majority of plant design and engineering projects support the operation, maintenance and expansion of existing facilities. These projects are typically executed by small teams facing tight time and budget constraints. AutoCAD Plant 3D is tailor-made to increase the productivity of these teams by reducing setup time, facilitating straightforward information sharing, and minimizing the impact of changing project information.

Teeth of sea otters resist damage due to 'stress shielding' by neighbors, prism interweaving (decussation), and self-healing.
"Tooth enamel is inherently weak, with fracture toughness comparable with glass, yet it is remarkably resilient, surviving millions of functional contacts over a lifetime. We propose a microstructural mechanism of damage resistance, based on observations from ex situ loading of human and sea otter molars (teeth with strikingly similar structural features). Section views of the enamel implicate tufts, hypomineralized crack-like defects at the enamel–dentin junction, as primary fracture sources. We report a stabilization in the evolution of these defects, by 'stress shielding' from neighbors, by inhibition of ensuing crack extension from prism interweaving (decussation), and by self-healing. These factors, coupled with the capacity of the tooth configuration to limit the generation of tensile stresses in largely compressive biting, explain how teeth may absorb considerable damage over time without catastrophic failure, an outcome with strong implications concerning the adaptation of animal species to diet." (Chai et al. 2009:7289)
"Teeth are made from an extremely sophisticated composite material which reacts in an extraordinary way under pressure," says Prof. Chai. "Teeth exhibit graded mechanical properties and a cathedral-like geometry, and over time they develop a network of micro-cracks which help diffuse stress. This, and the tooth's built-in ability to heal the micro-cracks over time, prevents it from fracturing into large pieces when we eat hard food, like nuts." (Dr. Herzl Chai, Tel Aviv University's School of Mechanical Engineering)
In a continuing effort to provide high quality products, Autodesk has released AutoCAD Mechanical 2010 Update 1, which fixes or addresses a variety of issues pertaining to AutoCAD Mechanical 2010.

and offers several advantages over your existing AutoCAD LT®.
- Add parametric constraints to your drawings:
Slash your design revision time with parametric drawing - a unique feature not available in AutoCAD LT®.
By defining persistent relationships between objects, parallel lines remain parallel and concentric circles remain centered,
all automatically.
- Explore your ideas in 3D:
Get the flexibility to explore your designs in 2D and 3D with intuitive tools that help your concepts become real.
AutoCAD LT® only provides 2D drafting applications.
- Print your models in 3D:
Don't just visualize your designs - with AutoCAD® make them real. AutoCAD LT®
does not offer 3D printing capabilities.
- Customize your software:
The AutoCAD software platform offers fully extensible drawing and appilication customization through APIs(Application programming interfaces)
such as Autodesk's AutoLISP®, Microsoft.NET, and Microsoft Visula Basic® for Applications(VBA) and Microsoft ActiveX®
programming languages. AutoCAD LT is not and extensible product.
- Work in a multiple sheet environment:
AutoCAD® extends beyond single drawing production. in a single interface access multiple sheets, group
them into logical categories, create sheet index, manage sheet views, and even share them. AutoCAD LT®
does not offer this functionality.
