StormNET, RiverCAD and WaterNET Software Tools to Provide Autodesk Civil Engineering and Utility Customers with Comprehensive Water Analysis Capabilities
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a world leader in 2D and 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, has announced the acquisition of certain assets from BOSS International, Inc. to further expand its water resources analysis capabilities for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. StormNET for stormwater management analysis, RiverCAD for floodplain analysis, and WaterNET for water distribution analysis will be more closely integrated with Autodesk's model-based design solutions, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, to help engineers streamline workflows, reduce errors and boost productivity. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The environmental engineering and water/wastewater utility markets have recently experienced an uptick due in large part to economic stimulus spending. The acquisition of these products aligns with Autodesk's mission to consistently extend value to its customers and satisfy industry demand. Adding valuable expertise and industry knowledge, Chris Maeder, former president and CEO of BOSS International, will join Autodesk as an industry solutions manager for the environmental engineering industry.
"The addition of BOSS International's water, sewer, and stormwater analysis technology to the Autodesk portfolio supports Autodesk's commitment to extend the value of our model-based design solutions for conducting simulation and analysis of design performance before projects are built," said Jim Lynch, vice president of marketing for AEC solutions at Autodesk. "This is particularly important for sustainable design when engineers need to evaluate the impact of various stormwater management approaches - including rain gardens, bioretention and green roofs - to identify those with minimal environmental impact."

VFX Studios in California, London and Canada Craft Spectacular Effects Using Autodesk Flame, Maya, 3ds Max, Softimage, Mudbox, MotionBuilder and FBX
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) salutes the hundreds of artists worldwide who collectively created close to 1,500 visual effects shots for this summer's action-packed movie "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra." Autodesk tools used to help create visual effects for G.I. Joe were Autodesk Flame, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Softimage, Autodesk MotionBuilder, Autodesk Mudbox and Autodesk FBX software.
"Enabling creative collaboration is central to our software development strategy," said Stig Gruman vice president of digital entertainment, Autodesk Media & Entertainment. "'G.I. Joe' is a perfect illustration of the success of our strategy. The movie showcases the work of six extremely talented visual effects studios which used a range of Autodesk tools to bring this massive project together and deliver an astounding visual result."
Digital Domain (Hollywood) -- A crew of 175 worked for over a year to create 320 visual effects (VFX) shots for two major sequences -- a Paris chase scene that culminates in the destruction of the Eiffel Tower and a massive convoy attack. Digital Domain relied on Maya as its core animation, modeling, lighting, character scripting and rigging tool, and Mudbox for modeling sketches. Animation Supervisor Bernd Angerer said, "The Eiffel Tower was a huge model with extreme detail comprising millions of polygons. Using Maya, we were able to control this massive data load and get the work done. Maya is so strong in so many aspects, but the big winner is its openness to being embedded into a pipeline."

Autodesk offers certification exams for AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, Civil 3D, Inventor, and Revit Architecture.
There are two levels of 2009 Autodesk Certification, which are designed to assess a candidate’s knowledge and skills of specific Autodesk applications.
Level 1: Autodesk Certified Associate. This certification level covers the fundamental concepts and procedures in an Autodesk application, and is targeted to all software users. This certification exam comprises thirty (30) multiple choice questions and does not require the use of Autodesk software. This knowledge-based certification is a prerequisite to the Certified Professional level.
Level 2: Autodesk Certified Professional. This certification level covers a broad range of skills, and requires an individual to perform tasks and procedures using the Autodesk software. This certification exam comprises twenty (20) performance-based items. Professional level exams require an individual to open a drawing, complete a task or series of tasks, and then answer a question about that task.
Benefits of Certification

and offers several advantages over your existing AutoCAD LT®.
- Add parametric constraints to your drawings:
Slash your design revision time with parametric drawing - a unique feature not available in AutoCAD LT®.
By defining persistent relationships between objects, parallel lines remain parallel and concentric circles remain centered,
all automatically.
- Explore your ideas in 3D:
Get the flexibility to explore your designs in 2D and 3D with intuitive tools that help your concepts become real.
AutoCAD LT® only provides 2D drafting applications.
- Print your models in 3D:
Don't just visualize your designs - with AutoCAD® make them real. AutoCAD LT®
does not offer 3D printing capabilities.
- Customize your software:
The AutoCAD software platform offers fully extensible drawing and appilication customization through APIs(Application programming interfaces)
such as Autodesk's AutoLISP®, Microsoft.NET, and Microsoft Visula Basic® for Applications(VBA) and Microsoft ActiveX®
programming languages. AutoCAD LT is not and extensible product.
- Work in a multiple sheet environment:
AutoCAD® extends beyond single drawing production. in a single interface access multiple sheets, group
them into logical categories, create sheet index, manage sheet views, and even share them. AutoCAD LT®
does not offer this functionality.
